The Cobbler (884m)

A weekend of two weather fronts, Saturday low pressure resulting in mist covered hills and the chance of rain, Sunday, high pressure promising us a beautiful autumnal day, therefore I decided to forgo Saturdays planned group walk and wait until Sunday to pay what has become an almost annual visit to one of my favourite local hills, The Cobbler. And what a day it turned out to be, the high pressure brought with it the bluest of blue skies and the clearest of visibility, but also just enough moisture to create some fantastic cloud inversions.

The route to The Cobbler is well documented in my reports, however, although the route remained unchanged the going underfoot was considerably different on the haul up the zig-zags where extensive work is being carried out on the upper level of the path resulting in a veritable muddy mess underfoot for most of the way up until the forest boundary just before the dam, where I had my usual stop for refreshments and just to gaze upon the wonderful view ahead as The Cobbler makes it’s initial appearance on exiting the woodlands.

In slow time I made my way onwards, passed the Narnain Boulders and up to the turn-off point just short of Bealach a’ Mhaim where I laboured up the awkward stepped path towards the ridge line between the North Peak and the summit of The Cobbler, before making the final short, but rocky ascent to the 884m summit. All of which was accomplished in an unusually warm day, such that it was base-layer only on the summit, just wonderful.

The real story is in the photos in the photo gallery below, they convey the beauty of the day much more than I can here. Suffice to say, another great day on The Cobbler.
