Walk Reports Database
You can use the Walks Database to search for other walks
similar to that currently shown, or easier low-level walks, or more adventurous
high-level Munros and Corbetts.
Use the Search option for a specific mountain or hill, or, select Munro, Corbett or Others for a full listing of all walks in that category. There are currently almost 400 walks available on the database.
Search Hints: Single searches can be accomplished by a partial name search.
e.g. Entering ime, will return Beinn Ime, and any other hills with ime in the name. Similarly, entering Sgurr will return all occurances of Sgurr in the hill name. Searches are not case sensative and will respond to a partial name, e.g phar will return Beinn Pharlagain.
Beinn Dubh(642m)
Sunday 13th October 2024
A beautiful autumnal day, blue skies, a chill in the air, where better to head for a relatively short but energetic walk than Beinn Dubh. A quick drive to Luss, boots on and straight onto the hillside.
Beinn Chaorach, two weeks ago was my last outing having been away last weekend, so it was a steady climb to start with until the gradient eases a little around the 300 metre height and then continues at an easier rise up to the 500 metre height, A short dip and then the final 150 metre climb to the summits. Wonderful.
The views throughout magnificent, the chill in the air reminding me that winter is on it’s way, with even a few patches of thin ice in the wet ground just to emphasis the point. A relaxed break on the summit, taking in the views and a steady return to Luss, what more could I ask for in a short walk on my local hills. Brilliant. John.

1 /5 - I never tire of the views over the southern end of Loch Lomond from this viewpoint on the lower slopes of Beinn Dubh .....
2 /5 - ..... and a little higher up the hillside, this view of Ben Lomons
3 /5 - The way ahead, the false summit at the 500m height, the true summit still hidden from view
4 /5 - Yet another wonderful view over Loch Lomond
5 /5 - My summit photo with an early covering of snow on (possibly) Ben More and Stob Binnein just visible over my left shoulder
