With no specific walk planned for the coming weekend, it was Friday evening's weather forecast for a fine day on Saturday that had me deciding on a wander up Beinn Narnain the following morning.
There were fine blue skies over Succoth car park as I set off, initially intending to go via The Spearhead route, but changing my mind at the last moment on the more leisurely zigzags, Narnain Boulders, Bealach a'Mhaim route, which turned out to be a fortunate decision.
All was reasonably fine and calm on the way to the bealach, but things were about to change, as the clouds darkened, and a very cool wind blew across the bealach which had me reaching for another layer of warmth for the final climb up the west flank to the summit cairn, at 926m.
Hidden behind the wind shelter as I approached was one other walker, who immediately asked me from which direction I had come, for me to reply from the Cobbler side. Lucky you he commented, and proceeded to tell me that he had encountered a very large bank of snow blocking the main Spearhead route, which almost had him turning back, until he finally found a way around. Making me feel quite pleased with my late change of route.
As is often the case, the poor weather I had on the summit, gradually cleared as I made the descent, and by the time I was back around the Narnain Boulders it was blue skies and sunshine once again.
A pleasant day on a fine mountain.
