Walk Reports Database

You can use the Walks Database to search for other walks similar to that currently shown, or easier low-level walks, or more adventurous high-level Munros and Corbetts.
Use the Search option for a specific mountain or hill, or, select Munro, Corbett or Others for a full listing of all walks in that category. There are currently almost 400 walks available on the database.

Search Hints: Single searches can be accomplished by a partial name search.
e.g. Entering ime, will return Beinn Ime, and any other hills with ime in the name. Similarly, entering Sgurr will return all occurances of Sgurr in the hill name. Searches are not case sensative and will respond to a partial name, e.g phar will return Beinn Pharlagain.

Beinn A'Chochuill(980m) & Beinn Eunaich(989m)

Neither of these two mountains were new to me, Beinn a'Chochuill having been climbed on a marvelous winters day in November 2013, and Beinn Eunaich, in company with the Corbett, Meall Copagach in September 2012. So it was time for a re-visit, this time making a circuit of both summits on a single trip.

Making good use of the fine hydro track contouring the western slopes of Beinn Eunaich we climbed to the high point at just over 400m high before taking to the south east ridge of Beinn a'Chochuill and climbing up the grassy slopes on the faintest of paths which headed in a fairly direct line for the distant ridgeline. Aiming for a point just to the west of the un-named 896m minor top we crested the ridge and turned west, initially climbing over a rocky knoll before the gradient eased over the final 700 metres along the grassy ridge to the summit cairn.

The weather on the 980m summit of Beinn a'Chochuill was pretty mucky, a cool breeze and heavy drizzle making for very poor visibility, and so, it was a quick two minute break for a photo, and then back down towards the shelter offered by the rocky knoll we had passed earlier, at which point we all regrouped for a spot of lunch in preparation for our second summit.

A short pull up, and over the 896m minor top followed by the descent into the 728m bealach Lairig Ianachain brought us to the foot of the west ridge of Beinn Eunaich. Initially, the climb up the ridge is on grassy slopes which gradually change to rock and boulder as you approach the summit cairn, the high point of our days walk, at 989m, Beinn Eunaich topping Beinn a'Chochuill by a mere 9 metres.

Our second summit heralded a change in the weather, as the rain and drizzle stopped and the clouds eventually began to break and blue skies made an appearance; and it stayed fair for our descent down the long south ridge towards Stob Maol before dropping off west down the very steep slopes to rejoin the hydro track back through Castles Farm and the completion of a round of two fine Munros.

Great day, great company; thanks Ian
