With Christmas just around the corner, Ian suggested a quick dauner up Ben Vorlich before the years end. And a quick dauner it was. The weather was a bit dull with low cloud and mist hanging low over the hillsides as we set off up the direct track from Ardvorlich. Usually quite a busy mountain, today it was virtually deserted.
Without any real pause we plodded onwards, initially in a calm dullness, but the moment we poked our heads over the high ridgeline and were caught by the wind, the calmness quickly disappeared and we had to put in a little more effort on the final, steep rocky track which led us to the deserted summit where it was a quick huddle just off the top in as best shelter we could find before packing our bags and making a fairly quick descent.
Not until we were well down, almost to the small hydro dam did we stop for a long overdue breather and a late lunch. Our dauner over, we retired to the Mor 84, where a large meringue and a coffee heralded the start of my Christmas celebrations.
Cheers Ian - One walk that blew away the cobwebs and stretched the limbs.
