Beinn Dubh(642m) & Mid Hill(623m)

No doubt some of us have walked up Beinn Dubh and enjoyed a quiet and leisurely day on a deserted hillside - not so today, as 23 of us set off from Luss to find that the hillside was busier than Sauchiehall Street in the January sales - there were walkers ahead of us, with even more coming up behind - it certainly was not going to be a lonely day in the hills.
Thankfully, the recent cold and frosty weather had hardened the ground somewhat, and the usually boggy and wet hill path was actually quite pleasant to walk up, with very little evidence of the recent covering of snow that had bedecked the hillside earlier in the week. With a low cloud-base filtering what sun there was, Loch Lomond took on a rather dark and grey look as we ascended the long grassy ridge that runs all the way from Luss to the summit cairn.
By the time we had reached the cairn, we had passed a few walkers and been passed by a group of fell-runners, some making a good attempt at running, and others, not walking much faster than we were. Still, they all made the summit, which was a rather windy and cold spot now that we were feeling the full blast of the wind as it blew across the tops; and so we delayed just long enough for a few photos before setting off towards Mid Hill.
A brief stop for a spot of lunch, huddled on the hillside just before Coire na h-Eanachan, and then onto the indistinct summit of Mid Hill, from where the sun briefly shone over the glen towards another of our favoured Luss walks, Doune Hill, before making the long, and sometimes steep descent down the south east ridge towards Glenmollochan.
A leisurely walk back along the narrow roadway through Glen Luss followed by a hot coffee in The Village Rest ended a delightful day on this popular hillside.
Thanks Trish.
