West Highland Way - Beinglass to Pollochro

The photos opposite say it all for this walk; Water, Water Everywhere. It fell in bucket-loads from the sky, it tumbled down the mountainsides and streams, it flooded our crossing points and it turned the West Highland Way footpath into the WHW burn. This walk, together with Dun Caan-Raasay, must be the main contenders for the title of "Wettest Walk of the Year 2014".
However, the rain did not dampen our spirits and we were soon heading through the forest and bound for the bothy at Doune. We were not the only travelers on the route today, as two souls were just boarding the small ferry to make the crossing from Ardleish to Ardlui as we passed by the jetty, and upon arrival at Doune, the bothy was already occupied by five others (and two dogs) who had spent the night there. Sensibly though, they seemed intent on staying there for the day and not venturing out in the horrible weather.
We made use of the shelter to have a short break out of the rain before heading off along the very wet track, which at times was ankle deep in water flowing like a river in front of us, and continued onwards towards Pollochro, encountering en-route a number of streams in full spate and which demanded a degree of care in crossing, otherwise one was going to get more than wet feet.
At Pollochro we sought some form of shelter under the overhang of a very large boulder and had a wet al-fresco lunch before deciding to call it a day at that point to ensure that we made our return in daylight as this was not a day for head torches should we run out of daylight.
The intensity of the rain was very evident as we retraced our step for the return, as the streams and rivers along the route had obviously risen considerably since our out-bound leg, and upon return to Beinglas campsite, the fields were completely under water and swamped out.
Back at the Drovers Inn car park we attempted to stay dry as we changed our wet outers for dryer clothing and made our way indoors to take some refreshments in the salubrious surroundings of the Drovers Bar.
Wet day, great company - Thanks Lawrie
