Walk Reports Database

You can use the Walks Database to search for other walks similar to that currently shown, or easier low-level walks, or more adventurous high-level Munros and Corbetts.
Use the Search option for a specific mountain or hill, or, select Munro, Corbett or Others for a full listing of all walks in that category. There are currently almost 400 walks available on the database.

Search Hints: Single searches can be accomplished by a partial name search.
e.g. Entering ime, will return Beinn Ime, and any other hills with ime in the name. Similarly, entering Sgurr will return all occurances of Sgurr in the hill name. Searches are not case sensative and will respond to a partial name, e.g phar will return Beinn Pharlagain.

Beinn Dubh(642m) & Mid Hill(657m)

Once again our "little" local hills have provided us with a fine walk on a winters day where the weather was considerably better than forecast; the forecast mist and low cloud giving way to fine, clear spells and good visibility, the forecast snow never really materialising, with just a few, short sleet showers, and the strong winds only evident as we crossed the summit of Beinn Dubh; all in all a very fine day for the hills.

Underfoot, the lower hillside was a bit wet and slippery, while at higher levels the snow lay in patches, quite wet and soggy, but never more that a few centimetres in depth, making for fairly good walking conditions; it was however a day for gloves and warm hats as temperatures remained stubbornly low throughout the day, as was evident by the icy covering on the exposed areas of the hillside.

Apart from one short pause for a quick snack huddled low by the walls of a peat hag near to Coire an h'Eanachan, we plodded onwards across the tops and made our way carefully down the steep slopes from Mid Hill into GLen Luss where we took the opportunity of the sheltered glen to have a reasonable break before a leisurely walk back along the glen road to Luss, and a welcome coffee in the Village Inn to complete yet another fine day in the hills.

Thanks Mhairi.
